Trim Road park-and-ride users will have an easier time getting on their morning buses this fall, as an expansion is set to add 380 spots.
EMC news - There is relief on the way for users of the packed park-and-ride at Trim Road and Highway 174.

The park-and-ride will expand from 688 spaces to 1,068, according to a document sent to city council from the planning department at the City of Ottawa.

It has been known to fill up completely, sometimes as early as 7:30 a.m. The OC Transpo website says the lot often fills up by or before 9:30 a.m.

"The Trim park-and-ride is the biggest park-and-ride in Orleans and currently does not meet our residents' needs," said Coun. Bob Monette. "With the lack of spaces, some residents are being forced to use their car when they would prefer public transit."

The park-and-ride on Millennium Boulevard can accommodate 168 cars, and the permit-only Jeanne D'Arc park-and-ride can accommodate 20. The Place d'Orleans park-and-ride can accommodate 568 cars, and fills up by 8 a.m. according to OC Transpo.

The expansion is scheduled to take about three to four months as it syncs with the Trim Road realignment to save costs, beginning this year.

An OC Transpo representative said the work is scheduled to be finished by the fall.

Monette said there will not be a significant impact on current park-and-ride spots as most of the work will be done on evenings and weekends.
